Opening reception for "The Garden," hand-carved, hand-printed work by Amy Crandall. Exhibit runs from Aug 31–Oct 12.
Artist's Statement
My art depicts flora and fauna. I believe in relaxed boundaries, so creatures can come and go freely, and this series is made up of portraits--part real, part imagined--of some of the plants and animals found in the garden. I’m fascinated by world-making and how life attracts life, and hope to remind people of the abundance of nature and the beauty in simple things. Hand-carving and hand-printing mean each piece is slightly different from its siblings, and this variability reflects the imperfect and irregular patterns found in nature.
Artist's Bio
Born and raised in SLC, I’m a life-long, self-taught artist who enjoys travel and gardening. After living in Portland, Oregon for ten years, I returned to Utah due to the lure of family and the mountains. I have always loved color, pattern, and all things handmade, and I enjoy channeling the everyday magic of the natural world through printmaking.

The Sprague Branch's high-gabled English Tudor style building has served the Sugar House community for three generations. The building was selected by the American Library Association in 1935 as the "Most Beautiful Branch Library in America." The two-level facility was opened in 1928 and has been renovated several times as use continues to increase. An expansion project to add a new public meeting room and remodel the building was completed in April 2001, which increased the square footage to 13,058. As the Sugar House shopping district sprouted up, the Sprague Branch continues to hold its historical charm and provide community members with outstanding public library services. Free parking is available to the east and south of the building, and free wi-fi access is provided throughout the library.
