Hi there! My name is Ian Hazel, and I'm a multi-instrumentalist based in Salt Lake City. My primary instrument and true love in music is the piano accordion, for which I have composed a number of original solo works that I'm currently recording for digital and physical release in 2026. I'll be performing two of these original pieces for 12 Minutes Max. My love of symphonic orchestra combined with my time spent playing alongside local punk rock and folk musicians results in a unique playing style, blending contemporary and classical influence with more traditional accordion melodies. I look forward to sharing my work with you!
Rookie driver Landspeed Liz takes on the chance of a lifetime to pilot the Iron Dinosaur—a 300 mph race car—on Utah's unforgiving Bonneville Salt Flats, known as ‘the Great White Cathedral.’ With a team gripped by ‘salt fever,’ an unreasonable passion for racing on the hostile flats, Liz faces down a field that has often underestimated her. But here, in this breathtaking landscape, speed is the great equalizer.
Allison Swank’s work seeks to explore human resilience by creating safe spaces to empower and uplift others. As a filmmaker, she sees vulnerability as a way to transcend fear, share pain, and collectively heal through storytelling.
Lisa DeFrance collaborates in art, design, and performance as well as makes solo performance art. As a public school teacher her teaching practice focuses on building collective intelligence & critical thinking in kids through mindfulness, solution-oriented problem solving, mistake making, and dialogue.
Lisa will be working with a collection of white shirts that have been used in the series "Fold: repetition & difference" which began in 2014. This performance, "see yourself in everyone", will mark the final performance in the series.
12 Minutes Max is dedicated to the memory of our dear friend and colleague Paul Reynolds: artist, librarian, and patron of the arts. The 12 Minutes Max program is a curated monthly performance series featuring experimental short works by local artists in many different disciplines, including dance, music, film, and more. Each piece is followed by a Q&A with the artist. 12MM is modeled after the program originated by On the Boards in Seattle.

NOTE: The Main Library's Rooftop Terrace is closed for renovations.
Salt Lake City's Main Library, designed by internationally-acclaimed architect Moshe Safdie in conjunction with VCBO Architecture, opened in February 2003 and remains one of the most architecturally unique structures in Utah. This striking 240,000 square-foot structure houses more than 500,000 books and other materials, yet serves as more than just a repository of books and computers. It reflects and engages the city's imagination and aspirations. The structure embraces a public plaza, with shops and services at ground level, reading galleries above, and a 300-seat auditorium.
A multi-level reading area along the Glass Lens at the southern facade of the building looks out onto the plaza with stunning views of the city and Wasatch Mountains beyond. Spiraling fireplaces on four floors resemble a column of flame from the vantage of 200 East and 400 South. The Urban Room between the Library and the Crescent Wall is a space for all seasons, generously endowed with daylight and open to magnificent views.
