Opening reception for "Birds of A Heather," paintings by Heather Olsen. Exhibit runs May 9–June 20.
Artist's Statement:
Birds are some of the most beautiful, fascinating creatures, and I absolutely adore them. I love feeding them, observing them, and learning about them. Over the course of my life, birds from all around the world have taken on deeply personal meaning. Some remind me of my loved ones. Others hold specific memories — particular seasons of my life, places I’ve traveled, moments that changed me.
Every single one has a special place in my heart.
I’m lucky to live in a place where so many different birds visit my yard. Over time, I’ve come to recognize their individual personalities and even the dynamics between them. I see their quirks, their hierarchies, their tenderness and their stubbornness. And honestly, I can sometimes see myself reflected back in them — in their connections, their conflicts, and their resilience. They are delicate, yet completely wild. Small, yet powerful. They endure harsh seasons, adapt, build, return. They are intelligent, strong, and infinitely beautiful.
This exhibition is a love letter to all the birds who have shaped me and my life. It’s a collection of paintings about the birds I adore — and the people and experiences woven into them. If you look closely, you just might find a bit of your own story in their wings.
