One Sunday a month, we present three original pieces in a varied mix, chosen from music, dance, film, theater, performance art, writing, and the like — each 12 minutes or less. The whole event is short and sweet, taking about an hour.
Following each event, we serve coffee and cookies in an informal gathering, a chance for conversation with the artists.
Jeremy Devine will perform implementation, a combination of video, music, and performance. Slapstick physical comedy meets otherworldly dread in this showcase of his current work. Jeremy says “Witness an alien being at its most vulnerable, attempting to assimilate itself into a tired populace to comedic ends.”
Dancemaker Halie Bahr will present her choreography with the piece Blackout Twins, a work inspired by jump cuts as a video editing tool. She says “These quick transitions that slice from one image to the next move back and forth in time to unlock a memory.” This excerpt is a work in progress and will premiere in its entirety September 6-7 at Sugar Space Arts Warehouse as a part of SUITE: Women Defining Space. The performers will be Lexi Hauck, Nora Lang, Ali Lorenz, Aileen Norris and Severin Sargent-Catterton. Halie is currently an MFA candidate and teaches within the School of Dance at the University of Utah. She presents dances across the country, and has performed internationally. Steve Creson will present his film White Mouse, the second in a series of cut-up films he made in the late 90’s, just made available to us this month with a new transfer. The film is assembled and hand-spliced using found footage from old educational films. Steve is a multimedia visual artist, writer, photographer, 16 mm filmmaker and occasional performance artist. He studied poetry and book arts at Naropa Institute (1986-88) in Boulder, CO and received a BS in Typography & Design at Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, NY. He has shown work and performed in both the United States & Europe.
This program is modeled after 12 Minutes Max, a performance laboratory originated by On the Boards in Seattle.
