Artist Statement
I talk to people through my photos.
I tell my stories through my lens.
Photography is about curiosity.
It is a desire for knowledge.
It is a constant longing for the unknown and undiscovered.
It is a connection to a galaxy of humans who have the same, singular relation - art.
Artist Bio
Laimis Urbonas is a photographer who’s enjoying life and work in the city that has been known by many nicknames, but is best recognized as the Windy City, also known as Chicago.
As an artist, Laimis loves to capture special moments in life and distribute those moments to others. These images would capture his clients’ hearts forever. He has an immense appreciation of travel. Laimis’s favorite creations reflects his explorations of new, fascinating places around the world.
He enjoys the outdoors. Laimis is an avid hiker and a skier. He loves a good adventure. Yet, according to Laimis, staying in a small hotel or spending time in a quaint restaurant might bring most unexpected surprises and unforgettable moments.
Laimis is known for surrounding himself with turmoil and adventure. But if you ask him what he values the most, he’ll admit how much he values a quiet time to work on his photography. Being an artist means working alone, he says.
The idea of travel and discovery has been particularly important to Laimis. In his travels, Laimis has visited a couple of continents such as Europe and Asia, as well as many beautiful places in North America. Photography is the way Laimis connects himself to the world. It is a journey of constant explorations and encounters. He will argue the art of photography is not just having a natural eye behind the camera or picking the right angle, or getting exposure right. It is about communicating one’s creative and distinctive vision of the world. It is about capturing a unique image without removing its identity.

NOTE: The Main Library's Rooftop Terrace is closed for renovations.
Salt Lake City's Main Library, designed by internationally-acclaimed architect Moshe Safdie in conjunction with VCBO Architecture, opened in February 2003 and remains one of the most architecturally unique structures in Utah. This striking 240,000 square-foot structure houses more than 500,000 books and other materials, yet serves as more than just a repository of books and computers. It reflects and engages the city's imagination and aspirations. The structure embraces a public plaza, with shops and services at ground level, reading galleries above, and a 300-seat auditorium.
A multi-level reading area along the Glass Lens at the southern facade of the building looks out onto the plaza with stunning views of the city and Wasatch Mountains beyond. Spiraling fireplaces on four floors resemble a column of flame from the vantage of 200 East and 400 South. The Urban Room between the Library and the Crescent Wall is a space for all seasons, generously endowed with daylight and open to magnificent views.
