12 Minutes Max is a curated monthly performance series featuring short works by local artists in many disciplines.

One Sunday a month, we present three original pieces in a varied mix, chosen from music, dance, film, theater, performance art, writing, and the like — each 12 minutes or less with a short Q&A after each piece. The whole event is short and sweet, taking about an hour.

The City Library will present a live stream 12 Minutes Max on Sunday, January 17, at 2pm. Please join us using this link. The program is archived on Vimeo after the broadcast and can be viewed later as well.

Choreographer and director Roxanne Gray will present her dance film PAIR, an exploration of the courtship rituals of animals, and the art of finding a mate in the Animal Kingdom. Roxanne is a dance artist who recently moved from Oakland to Salt Lake City. This project is a collaboration between the dancers of Wasatch Contemporary Dance Company, and with Bentley Rawle, Jasmine Stack, Jacob Watson, and Trevor Free. The score was created by Ben Swisher, Alyssa Pyper, and Luke Williams.

Logan Hone's Community Band will present a video of community-sourced musicians responding to prompts for melodic improvisation.  In early January, Logan sent out a widespread invitation to participate in the project, and will edit the submissions. Logan is a Los Angeles based musician who lived in Utah from 2005–2013. He directs Community Band, which was a weekly jam class before the pandemic, and has now transformed into online music classes and projects, all free and open to the public.

Steve Creson will screen his film Crazy Mad Dash, a found footage piece made in the late 90's, when he began collecting and collaging 16mm films. Newly transferred to digital, it is a narrative that concentrates on hand movements and a quickening of cuts. Steve is a multimedia visual artist, writer, photographer, 16mm filmmaker and occasional performance artist. He studied poetry at Naropa Institute in Boulder, and has shown work and performed in both the United States and Europe. His new book of poems, Big Day/ New and Selected Poems, just published by Elik Press, is available at Weller Book Works and Ken Sanders Rare Books.

This program is modeled after 12 Minutes Max, a performance laboratory originated by On the Boards in Seattle.
