Paintings by Heather Olsen • Exhibit runs from Jan 28 to Mar 10, 2023.
ARTIST STATEMENT:
As an artist, I strive to create beautiful paintings that both accurately and expressively display the splendor of the world around us. I paint whatever speaks to me. This can be anything from a tangible object to an abstract idea. Sometimes I’m inspired by the perfect tomato from the garden or my cat sleeping on the bed; and other times it’s something I dreamt or an experience I had. However, my absolute favorite things to paint are animal and human portraits. I enjoy portraiture as I am able to bring someone to life and capture their true essence through the painted image. I believe that eyes are windows to the soul, and much expression lies within the face. My goal is not simply to replicate what I see, but use expressive brushstrokes, careful color choices, and dramatic value shifts to convey a feeling. Using this visual medium, I aim to express the love and beauty of the world around me.
ARTIST BIOGRAPHY:
Utah artist Heather Olsen studied classical realism at the Bridge Academy of Art and the Hein Academy of Art for three years before completing her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Utah in 2015. Since then, Heather has exhibited consistently nationwide in both private and public collections. She has won several art awards including Art Battle Champion in 2020 and 2022, Best of Show in the 2020 online exhibition “Created in Isolation”, and the Grand Prize Artist Award in 2018. She has also had several notable commissions such as the commissioned painting “Together We Can Do This” for Intermountain Healthcare where many copies of the painting hang in medical facilities worldwide, and commissioned portraits for several of Utah’s Governors and other local legislative officials. While she enjoys painting a variety of subjects, her passion is painting animals and people where personality and emotion are so wonderfully depicted. As a lifelong animal lover and advocate, Heather focuses on portraying the beautiful soul animals, commanding the same integrity and respect as her figurative work.

The Anderson-Foothill Branch has a meeting room available for public use with tables, chairs, and a projector screen. The Anderson-Foothill Branch's outdoor amphitheater is a popular location for summer concerts. Free parking is available to the north and south of the building, and free wi-fi access is provided throughout the library.
