ARTIST STATEMENT:

Creating art brings me joy! Through it I remember that there is beauty in our world, that life is worth living, and peace can be found in chaos. I love trying all techniques and mediums. I do seem to always gravitate back to watercolor and colored pencil. The art I create expresses my feelings and helps me capture special moments from my life, like a beautiful sunset or a walk with my grandson.

ARTIST BIO:

Donna was born in 1948 in Hurricane Utah, She has always had a passion for art, even at an early age. She would often draw on her school work which her teachers didn't always appreciate. Her mother encouraged her interest. Some of her earliest teachers were John Nagy and Bob Ross. In high school she was on the yearbook staff. In college she majored in Theater and Cinematic Arts. Taking classes on painting and drawing along the way. She spent most of her professional life working in graphic design and advertising. She won a trip to Europe for her poster design for the Make-A-Wish Foundation's "rubber ducky derby." Since retiring she has spent much of her time taking and teaching art classes focusing on various mediums. The natural world and people are her most common subjects, but she has recently found joy in more abstract work such as neurotrophic art.

About the branch

The Sprague Branch's high-gabled English Tudor style building has served the Sugar House community for three generations. The building was selected by the American Library Association in 1935 as the "Most Beautiful Branch Library in America." The two-level facility was opened in 1928 and has been renovated several times as use continues to increase. An expansion project to add a new public meeting room and remodel the building was completed in April 2001, which increased the square footage to 13,058. As the Sugar House shopping district sprouted up, the Sprague Branch continues to hold its historical charm and provide community members with outstanding public library services. Free parking is available to the east and south of the building, and free wi-fi access is provided throughout the library.
