Local artists perform or present short works in a variety of media, including music, dance, film, and spoken word. Held the third Sunday of each month.

Purr Bats is a band probably best described as wonky pop. Joyfully self indulgent and delusional. We will perform Sego Lily, a love song to Salt Lake City and all things weird Utah—folklore and history. And also: An Ex-Blackhole, which is a love song to the somewhat damaged.

Filmmaker Kristina Lynae will screen PRENUP, a proof of concept comedy short that follows budding celebrity May French through the taping of her first big magazine interview, which quickly goes off the rails upon the surprise appearance of her older, more famous husband. PRENUP is a No Society Films production written and directed by Kristina, and produced with the generous assistance of the David Ross Fetzer Foundation for Emerging Artists. Kristina Lynae is a screenwriter, director, artist, and special collections archivist with a degree in Film and Media Arts from the University of Utah. Her other works include the comedy short SAUSAGE (2022) and a collage series recounting her coming of age as a member of the Mormon church. Instagram:@kristinalynae

With equal parts sincerity and spectacle, Halie Bahr (she/hers) creates wildly vivid and visceral dances that feel like puzzles. At 12 Minutes Max, she will revisit Baby Pink, an ever-changing solo built on bodily trust and belief in her changing body. Come watch her as she sorts through violent memories that flood and fade with this sweet yet strident performance. Halie is an Assistant Professor of Dance at Southern Utah University where she researches trauma and play as an embodied, socio-political, creative practice. Halie holds her MFA from the University of Utah School of Dance, BFA from the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee, and is a Certified Laban/Bartenieff Movement Analyst (CLMA). www.haliebahr.org.

12 Minutes Max is dedicated to the memory of our dear friend and colleague Paul Reynolds: artist, librarian, and patron of the arts. 12 Minutes Max is a curated monthly performance series featuring experimental short works by local artists in many different disciplines, including dance, music, film, and more. Each piece is followed by a Q&A with the artist. 12MM is modeled after the program originated by On the Boards in Seattle.

This event takes place on the third Sunday of each month.

About the branch

NOTE: The Main Library's Rooftop Terrace is closed for renovations.

Salt Lake City's Main Library, designed by internationally-acclaimed architect Moshe Safdie in conjunction with VCBO Architecture, opened in February 2003 and remains one of the most architecturally unique structures in Utah. This striking 240,000 square-foot structure houses more than 500,000 books and other materials, yet serves as more than just a repository of books and computers. It reflects and engages the city's imagination and aspirations. The structure embraces a public plaza, with shops and services at ground level, reading galleries above, and a 300-seat auditorium.

A multi-level reading area along the Glass Lens at the southern facade of the building looks out onto the plaza with stunning views of the city and Wasatch Mountains beyond. Spiraling fireplaces on four floors resemble a column of flame from the vantage of 200 East and 400 South. The Urban Room between the Library and the Crescent Wall is a space for all seasons, generously endowed with daylight and open to magnificent views.
