Local artists perform or present short works in a variety of media, including music, dance, film, and spoken word. Held the third Sunday of each month.
Three original pieces — each 12 minutes or less, followed by a short Q&A. This program is modeled after 12 Minutes Max, a performance laboratory originated by On the Boards in Seattle.
Jon Philpott aka Fezmaster will be presenting two pieces of music based on his current track of experiments using simple computer programs modeled around cells to generate and manipulate ambient music that is inspired by natural processes played from his DIY synthesizer, The two pieces of music follow a theme of "breath" with pieces of code that attempt to mimic natural breathing patterns which is combined with improvisations on the bamboo flute and trombone, both instruments that depend on the player's breath.
Elle Malan Taylor will be performing a dance solo entitled, "get back on that pony n ride." This work is a portrait of the transformational 6 months they spent as a farm hand in their home town of Midway, Utah. It is an exploration of the working, laboring body, Earth’s concentric life cycles, and the meaning of Home.
Elle received a Modern Dance BFA and Sustainable Food Systems BS at the University of Utah. They are eager to connect to people and the Earth through food, play, movement, and art. They will be moving to Nepal in January to join the agricultural sector of the Peace Corps.
Michele Medina-Ferrone is a multi-disciplinary violinist from Utah. In 2022, she asked Ellinor Peteresen, a Utah composer originally from Sweden, if she could write her an unaccompanied violin solo. Medina-Ferrone wanted the piece to be about motherhood because after having her son, Kian, it was suddenly a challenge to organize music performances like she had in the past. Petersen sought inspiration from photos, poetry, and Swedish folk dances. Listen for the Swedish Hambopolska and Schottis “Metamorphosis in March.”
12 Minutes Max is dedicated to the memory of our dear friend and colleague Paul Reynolds: artist, librarian, and patron of the arts. 12 Minutes Max is a curated monthly performance series featuring experimental short works by local artists in many different disciplines, including dance, music, film, and more. Each piece is followed by a Q&A with the artist. 12MM is modeled after the program originated by On the Boards in Seattle.
This event takes place on the third Sunday of each month.

NOTE: The Main Library's Rooftop Terrace is closed for renovations.
Salt Lake City's Main Library, designed by internationally-acclaimed architect Moshe Safdie in conjunction with VCBO Architecture, opened in February 2003 and remains one of the most architecturally unique structures in Utah. This striking 240,000 square-foot structure houses more than 500,000 books and other materials, yet serves as more than just a repository of books and computers. It reflects and engages the city's imagination and aspirations. The structure embraces a public plaza, with shops and services at ground level, reading galleries above, and a 300-seat auditorium.
A multi-level reading area along the Glass Lens at the southern facade of the building looks out onto the plaza with stunning views of the city and Wasatch Mountains beyond. Spiraling fireplaces on four floors resemble a column of flame from the vantage of 200 East and 400 South. The Urban Room between the Library and the Crescent Wall is a space for all seasons, generously endowed with daylight and open to magnificent views.
